Speed dating is a method of dating people utilized to meet multiple people in a short period of time in an effort to find a good match. Usually for speed dating, you’ll have anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes to get to know someone enough and determine if there’s any kind of good chemistry. Speed Dating is Quick and Easy. We recommend speed dating for guys who are: Too busy to meet women in other environments (e.g. Bars, clubs, etc) because they work long hours or are studying hard at university. Don’t have many (or any) friends to go out approaching women with. Lack experience with approaching and meeting new women. SOPHISTICATED SIMPLICITY. Our in-person speed dating events, virtual speed dating events and matchmaking services offer fresh alternatives for NYC singles. Whether you’re looking for a night out with fellow singles, prefer a night in with our virtual events or find one-on-one matchmaking to be your cup of tea, we bring just the right amount of flirty to suit any need.

LYNNWOOD — Minutes before she was to meet four new men yesterday, Peg Einfeldt mapped out a strategy.

'I'll ask them what their hobbies are and where they've lived. That should get it started.'

Across the room, Henry Winje explained that he's not specifically searching for a soulmate. 'I have a lot of friends, but no real serious girlfriends — yet.'

This was Valentine's Day 'speed dating' with a twist: The two dozen 'daters' ranged in age from Barbara Beck, a mere child of 70, to Sigmund Knight, 96 and proud of it.

'Everybody wants to meet people. Everyone wants to fall in love. That doesn't stop just because you're 70, 80 or 90,' said Rosemary Coleman of Leisure Care, which organized the event for members of its four Seattle-area retirement communities.

Like a typical speed-dating session, this one involved eligible singles meeting several members of the opposite sex, one at a time, jotting down notes and secretly marking whom they'd be interested in seeing again.

Instead of the lickety-split, seven-minute sessions common in 'speed dating,' the seniors were allowed a more relaxed 10 minutes per encounter.

And compared to similar events, this one had more gray hair. More talk of past travels, homes and careers. More questions repeated in a slightly louder voice. And more proud talk of wonderful grandchildren.

Carl Nystrand, 82, and Barbara Beck quickly found something in common. He grew up in Butte, Mont., the same town where Beck's mother was born. 'It isn't much to look at, just what's left of the mines,' Nystrand said. 'But we had fun there when we were kids.'

When talk turned to family, Beck offered, 'My grandson, who is 15, called me up last week and said, 'Hey Grandma. I shaved for the first time.' '

Lynnwood's Brighton Court hosted the event, welcoming participants from Farrington Court in Kent, Brittany Park in Woodinville and Washington Oakes in Everett.

Ruthe Bird, 80, of Washington Oakes, was among the more animated participants, filling every corner of the paper provided with notes on the gentlemen she met. From Martin Nill, 86, she learned that his first car was a 1936 Chevrolet Coupe, to which she responded, 'I drove a Durant with a stick shift. And I wasn't very good at it.'

Between sessions, Bird said, 'I'm not looking for a boyfriend, but I'm having fun.' Then, in a slightly lower voice, she confided, 'I liked the one in the dental business. He's very interesting.'

Next week, participants learn which of the people they met would like to see them again.

Strangers at the start of the day, Peg Einfeldt, 81, and Henry Winje, 91, discovered common interests. They share a passion for bridge and an enthusiasm for ocean cruises.

Sitting at separate tables at the luncheon afterward, Einfeldt and Winje had good things to say about one another. She noted 'a spark' about him. He enjoyed her stories.

Though distance might be an obstacle — he's in Kent and she's in Woodinville — both said another meeting, possibly over a bridge game, might not be out of the cards.
