The Sparks Police Victim Services Unit provides services to victims of violent crime. Once a person has been impacted by crime, it is crucial that they get the answers to their questions and start to regain a sense of safety and control. After a person has been a victim of crime, a person often becomes overwhelmed with the changes, stress and emotional turmoil. Sparks Police Victim Services Unit Advocates provide the emotional and practical support for the victim and their family. The Victim Advocate assesses the person’s short-term needs and helps to create long-term goals with the victim.

After the Victim Advocate has assessed the unique individual needs and concerns the Victim Advocate provides support, services and referrals. The Victim Advocate can help members of the community who have been victimized by helping them with:
- Safety Plan Development
- Personal Advocacy
- Referrals to Community Resources such as counseling, support groups and resources
- Provides updates on the status of their criminal case
- Assists in filing for Victims of Crime Compensation
- Assist in filing for a Temporary Protection Order or Stalking Order
- Informs the Victim of Victim’s Rights
